The Answer is in the Soil, Photography Installation, Bruce's Garden New York, on view July 2014.
Bruce’s Garden is a beautiful community garden. It used to be a dump, and thanks to the efforts of the Reynolds family and the Inwood Community it has become a flourishing garden. I used the ceiling of the gazebo as the space for this large scale photo. The title refers to soil being a solution to reducing CO2 levels from the 400 parts per million (ppm) and even higher future levels back to the 350ppm that we need to have a stable climate. Healthy soil and the plants and trees that grow on it are the best way to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, places like Bruce’s Garden are a beacon of hope.
I shot the original photo during the Flood Wall St actions in 2014, when climate activists blocked Broadway for more than 8hrs and more than 100 were detained. The previous day more than 300,000 marched in the streets of New York in the People's Climate March.
